| Abstract: | This bibliography is intended to suggest background reading on the origins and emerging uses of electronic networks by libraries and higher education. It is not the purpose of this list to provide an exhaustive or comprehensive set of references in so wide-ranging and rapidly evolving a field as networking. The list does not focus, for example, on the technology of networking, local area networks, specific software applications, or the commercial aspects of networking, although all of these subjects are touched on occasionally in the sources cited here. The best source of current information about library networking is the Internet itself. Interested readers with network access who are willing to do some browsing will discover a variety of relevant and continuously updated discussion groups, electronic journals, information servers, and document archives devoted to these topics. |
