Abstract: Historians have always turned to newspapers to see how events were interpreted at the time that they occurred. Now, more than ever, with an increased interest in social history and in the daily life of the common person, historians have come to appreciate and use this most important element of the historical record. Thus, the questions of preservation and access have become more critical. As preservation and access are achieved, scholars are able to increase their study of people and events through an examination of the primary source of information and observation: the newspaper.
