| Abstract: | "Enough has probably been written on the principles of the punched card method and its application to library routines." This statement may seem a peculiar one with which to introduce my paper, but its particular interest in connection with trends in library applications of data processing is that it was made twenty-one years ago by E. Carl Pratt in an article on circulation control at the library of the University of Florida. When one considers the flood of material on library applications with which we have been deluged since 1942, it is easy to see that many other workers in the field have not shared the opinion expressed by Pratt. |
