When you visit you should see a notice at the top of the page that says “You are not a member of this wiki” and then a link to “Join now.”

You will need a wikispaces account to join the HWW wiki. You can do so at or when you click “join now.”

After you have created your account you will see a page where you can request membership and add a comment to your request. In the comment box, please provide your name, email and your university affiliation. Only individuals from HWW consortium partners will be allowed to request membership. If you do not provide your university affiliation you will not be granted membership. If you already have a wikispaces account you will immediately see a window with this same information.

After hitting “Request Membership” please allow for some time for your request to be processed. Your membership should be granted within two business days. If you haven’t heard back in that time, you can email explaining your problem. Please use the subject line “HWW wiki membership.”

Once your membership has been approved you will receive an email from wikispaces. Please be sure to check your spam folders before emailing about not receiving this email.

Once you have received membership approval you can return to the wiki. As a member, you will have the ability to add and edit all but the main pages. We trust that you will not abuse this privilege. Do not edit pages you have not created and only create pages relevant to the purposes of this wiki. Individuals found to be abusing these privileges will have their membership revoked.

To add your project to the wiki, click on the “+” sign next to pages and files.

A pop up box labeled “make a new page” will appear. Fill out the name of your project. Your project name should be descriptive, but if your project has a very long name we suggest shortening it for this section. This is a way to change the title of your project page after the fact but we highly discourage you from doing so, as it will result in broken links.

Under the “Use a Template” section choose “Project Template”.

In the “Add Tags” section, begin typing “Global Midwest”. A pre-existing tag will appear. Select it. Please make sure you do not mistype “Global Midwest” as it will cause your project not to appear in the project list.

Click the “Create” button. You will be taken to a new page with preloaded information.
Please fill out the following information:

  • Project title
  • Project description
  • Organizer’s name
  • Organizer’s contact information
  • Organizer’s departmental and university affiliation

You may also include any additional information you feel is relevant. After you have completed your entry, hit the save button:7.png
If you wish to edit your page at any time simply return to the page and click the “Edit” button in the upper right hand corner.

At this point, please check the List of Global Midwest projects page and make sure that your project is there.

If your project does not appear it is very likely that you did not tag it properly. To fix this, click on the “Pages and Files” link on the left hand menu (not the “+” sign next to the link). You will be taken to a list of all the pages contained on the wiki. Locate your project page (you can use the search tool at the top of the page). Next to your project name you will see a small arrow icon. Click on this arrow and you will see a pop up options where you can edit the tags on your project. Please make sure to use the tag “Global Midwest” to insure that your project appears in the project list page.

You will also notice that there is an option to rename your project. We HIGHLY DISCOURAGE you from doing so, as this may cause issues with broken links. If you do rename your project please send an email to informing us of the change. Please use the subject line “HWW wiki project name change” and tell us both the old and new name of your project and we will do our best to make sure that your page still works.
