Abstract:Language has increasingly emerged as a tool to obfuscate problematic topics. Given the role of language in resource description, we explore how controlled vocabularies contribute to or refute the obfuscation of controversial perspectives. This exploratory project uses information visualization to identify links and pathways between two Library of Congress Subject Headings: White supremacy movements and Racism. The interactive visual presentation will exhibit these maps, which support identification and analysis of key concepts and recurrent relationships to reveal embedded meaning.
