Title:Understanding the Opioid Epidemic and its impact on communities
Author(s):Young, Alli
Contributor(s):Doussard, Marc
Subject(s):opioid epidemic
Geographic Coverage:United States
Abstract:While deaths are certainly the most obvious consequence of the opioid epidemic, opioid use disorder causes many other individual and community-wide problems, such as immediate and long-term effects on children, lost productivity and revenue for employers, and overcrowded jails. In fact, the opioid epidemic impacts communities at all levels from individuals and families, to organizations and community groups, to governmental policy. Finding solutions involved engaging professionals in both public and private sectors focused on public health, law and criminal justice, housing, accessibility, economic development, education and more.
