Abstract:This report contains an exploratory investigation of the plastic bending of tapered members. Two analytical approaches are employed. The first considers a rigorous treatment by the classical theories of elasticity and plasticity while the second resorts to the more tractable mechanics of materials methods. A limited amount of experimental work is presented in support of theory.
