Abstract: | This qualitative research study focuses on the role masculinities programs have on the gender identity development of college men who attend small, private liberal arts colleges and universities. Participants were recruited from six institutions across the United States, which resulted in eight individuals engaging in interview process. Through the data analysis process, three major themes were identified: recognition of men’s issues, seeking and sustaining male peer support, and authoring of new masculinities and gender identity. The researcher provided insight on how participants self-authored their own versions of masculinities as a result of engaging in a masculinities program. Furthermore, the researcher shared practical considerations for implementing masculinities programs at small, private liberal arts institutions. |
