Abstract: Reform of teacher education is not only a national priority in the United States but also an active area for research and scholarship in universities. This research has addressed diverse aspects of the problems that many see with current practices in this area. This paper describes current efforts in teacher education at the University of Illinois that address needs in teacher education in light of the recent emphasis on standards-based education.
