|Title:||Redefining the stereotype: Video games as a center of socialization among college students|
|Abstract:||This project investigates the social use of video games on campus. The author conducted two interviews, recorded gamers’ time allocation, and did participant observation during a Gaming Night and an EB Games Launch Party. The results show that games are learning tools & absorbing media, and help create online and offline communities. However, games also have negative connotations and stereotypes, and the gamers interviewed try to be responsible about their hobby. The project includes a proposal for continued research.|
