Title: Asian American Social Interaction at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign

Abstract: Our research project sought to answer a question about both American and international Asian college students. Does each group have a tendency only to socialize with other Asians (racially, culturally, nationality) like themselves? To answer this we did a large amount of observations at cafes, restaurants, and coffee houses where numerous Asians were congregating. We supplemented this with face-to-face interviews with select individuals we observed. Our observations and interviews found that the answer to our question was affirmative. However, when confronted by outside culture, results could be individual integration, isolation, or a compromise of culture.
