Title: Students + Teachers: The Words and Worlds Between Them

Abstract: My research project asked the question: how do students respond to teachers that speak with an "accent" in relation to the course being taught (i.e. teacher of a foreign language, a lecture, TA's) and their perception of that teacher. In which classroom contexts does an "accent" lend credibility and in which kinds of courses does it sap credibility? I expanded this to include various forms of communication in order to better understand the judgments students have of teachers who communicate differently from themselves. I chose to do this project to reflect upon my own judgments of teachers, and in order to define my own language and communicative style.
