Abstract: | Through a description of a specific research design, the author details various merits of qualitative research. Using concrete examples from an actual research project on the use of computers by individuals over the age of 70, she suggests a salutary approach to research among elderly populations. This narrative description of methodological tools used in a qualitative approach includes a consideration of: population and setting; frequency and intensity of contact; data collection (participant observation, interviewing); data analysis; the issues of authority, validity and responsibility; and the role of the researcher. |
