Abstract:The following is a report on one effort to preserve Deena Larsen’s hypertextual poetic work Marble Springs, Second Edition (MS2). As MS2 is based on Apple’s HyperCard, a software program that is no longer updated or supported, MS2, and other works created in the same environment, face extinction unless action is taken. The experiment below details a basic documentary approach, recording functions and taking screen shots of state changes. The need to preserve significant properties is discussed, as are the costs associated with this preservation approach.
