Newmark Structural Engineering Laboratory
The Newmark Structural Research Laboratory of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois has a long history of excellence in large-scale experimental structural research. Over the years has contributed greatly to the state-of-the-art in civil engineering. Completed in 1967 and extended in 1971, the structural testing area of the laboratory is a versatile area with a three-story clear height that can be used to carry out a wide range of tests of building materials, components, structural assemblies, and models.

Real-time hybrid simulation is an efficient and cost-effective experimental testing technique for performance evaluation of structural systems subjected to earthquake loading with rate-of loading behavior. To assess the ...
Modification of ground motions for use in Central North America: Southern Illinois surface ground motions for structural analysis (Newmark Structural Engineering Laboratory. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign., 2017-09)The lack of ground motion time history records with a 1000-year return period hazard for Central North America (CNA) often requires earthquake engineering researchers in the area to develop ground motions of their own. ...
Structural and geotechnical observations after the April 25, 2015 M7.8 Gorkha, Nepal earthquake and its aftershocks (Newmark Structural Engineering Laboratory. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign., 2016-12)The April 25, 2015 Gorkha (Nepal) Earthquake (M7.8) and its related aftershocks had a devastating impact on Nepal. The earthquake sequence resulted in nearly 9,000 deaths, tens of thousands of injuries, and left hundreds ...
(Newmark Structural Engineering Laboratory. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign., 2016-12)The concept of Smart Cities has been introduced to categorize a vast area of activities to enhance the quality of life of citizens. A central feature of these activities is the pervasive use of Information and Communication ...
