Abstract: | A presentation about a new course and its content. The course is offered by the area centers at the University of Illinois through the LEEP online program as a way to learn more about changes around the world associated with the new social media. Guest speakers include experts in different regions, who in many cases live and work in other countries. They are able to participate through online collaboration technologies. Student projects investigate the use of social media in different settings. Issues include national self-determination, censorship and surveillance, information access, digital divides, privacy, transnational mobilization, identity, and community. |
