Title:DC-DC Converters for Solar Applications

Abstract:Solar cells typically produce about 0.6 V at maximum power output. However, many applications require 3.6 V. A conventional solution is to connect several cells in series to achieve the necessary voltage for those applications. An alternative solution is to use a single solar cell and a high-efficiency dc-dc converter to generate the desired voltage. This project explores the efficiency trade-offs of the two approaches and will culminate in a prototype single-cell system.
