Abstract:Nanoelectromechanical (NEM) relays are promising candidates for programmable routing in Field-Programmable-Gate-Array (FPGA). This is due to their zero leakage characteristic. By introducing NEM relays into FPGA, we can achieve static power reduction. Also, a new type of FPGA with two layers (3D FPGA) was invented, which saves fabrication area and routing channels and thus leads to less power dissipation. In this thesis, I will introduce a way and develop a tool to accurately estimate the power dissipation for 3D NEM FPGA. The program takes the placement and routing information from VPR (versatile placement and routing for FPGAs) and uses both macro model and switch-level model to estimate static power and dynamic power.
