Abstract:Understanding the ionosphere is essential for a wide range of applications, including radio and telecommunications, satellite tracking, and Earth observation from space. Raw radar data obtained from Jicamarca Radio Observatory was used to extract electron drift velocities. Spectral analysis was used to choose a model that showed similar characteristics to the empirical data. The method of nonlinear least squares fitting (implemented with the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm) was used to do spectral fitting, from which we were able to deduce the velocity drifts.
