Abstract:This thesis presents a novel method for the 3D modeling of histological data using a combination of wavelet edge detection, image segmentation, and morphological image processing operations. First, the problem will be introduced and framed in the context of computational acoustics. To better understand the way acoustic waves scatter off of complex boundary shapes, models must be generated. These models then can be used to both visualize and compute the geometry of the structures present. Through the proposed algorithm it is possible to take digitized histological tissue and create a complex 3D numerical model useful for further study. In addition to this, the model can be rendered to give insight into the structure of the objects present in the tissue.
