Abstract:Arizona covers 114,006 square miles, making it the sixth largest of the 50 states. Arizona's rich cultural heritage is personified in 150 regional, county, municipal and other local museums and historical organizations, 104 city/county libraries, 32 college and university libraries, 165 county record offices and 12 tribal archives. As noted in the findings of the Heritage Health index, these broadly dispersed institutions are responsible for the stewardship of an irreplaceable legacy but the resources and technical expertise available to care for this cultural legacy are scarce, especially among smaller institutions. Arizona's Connecting to Collections Project (AC2C) is a coordinated effort to take tangible steps to responsibly safeguard Arizona's material heritage.
