Abstract: | The sculptures I make explore themes found within my own interpersonal relationships. Functioning to communicate narratives that while highly personal, are not unique. It is certain that everyone has felt weak, impotent, used or controlled at some time in their lives. I use horses as a metaphor to symbolize these ideas as a way to relate to and make sense of the complexities contained in all relationships. Horses symbolize strength, power, labor, and obedience. I began collecting toy horses as a child because I was instinctually drawn to what a horse represents. Now, I use those ideas in my creative practice as well as the toys from my childhood collection. The image reveals a moment on my work bench a sculpture in process, paused. |
