Abstract:A method for reconstructing 3-D tomographic image of space from spectroscopic Far Ultraviolet (FUV) measurements is presented by first formulating a forward model based on the FUV instrument onboard a NASA satellite scheduled for launch in 2017. This method computes the intersection of the volume based on spacecraft position and field of view (FOV). The tomographic method is validated by simulating and comparing the sampled images taken at different locations along the satellite’s orbit. The conditioning of the forward model is investigated, and two methods of solving the inverse problem: minimum norm least squares and projections onto convex sets, are studied.
