Abstract:A technique was developed for estimating the parameters on the two-parameter logistic graded response model. Comparisons were made of the person and item parameters with the dichotomously scored counterparts. Application of the graded response model was also made to appropriateness measurement in detecting aberrant response vectors. The results demonstrated that graded response scoring can be a valid alternative to dichotomous scoring, and that polychotomous appropriateness measurement can make useful distinctions among examinees beyond that of dichotomous appropriateness measurement.
