Abstract: | The practice of grade level retention has been used by schools for many years as a method to require higher achievement from students and to increase individual student performance. This practice has been advocated by both the educational community and society as a whole. However, previous research studies have indicated that retention does not accomplish the intended goal and researchers have addressed the need to seek an alternative to retention. This study examined an individualized summer school program designed as an alternative to grade level retention and found it to be an effective alternative. |
