Abstract: | This project looks at creating a sink that diverts the electromagnetic waves in from a source on another plane. We use a self-sustaining oscillator A as our source, another oscillator B as the receiver, and a third oscillator C as the ground. There is an optimal friction constant such that when A and B are in resonance, we should find that the maximum power is dissipated in B and minimum power is dissipated in C. The oscillators have equations of motion similar to the Van der Pol equation but with different damping terms. For some solutions, I found analytically a value for the amplitude. Using Matlab, I run simulations of our system in order to determine the optimal resistance that produces the maximum power in the receiver as well as the power dissipated at each oscillator. |
