Description

Title:Weeding the reference collection: A review of the literature
Author(s):Bernholz, Charles D.
Subject(s):Deselection of library materials
Reference sources
Abstract:Weeding is an important tool in the quest for optimized collection development, and this is especially true for the reference collection. The history of, and the success derived from, the implementation of this procedure over the last one hundred years have, in general, been reported in a less than optimum manner, and only since Slote's (1989) methods have been generally accepted have the true gains become evident. This discussion examines the recent work in the area of weeding, with particular regard to the concerns of reference collections.
