Abstract:Conventional A/D conversion circuits require high-performance analog circuits requiring exquisite design. A novel way to convert analog signal is presented here using a mostly-digital frequency discriminator with low cost. This circuit can find immediate applications in personal communication fields, where low-power circuit and simpler architecture are preferred. To meet the current trend of wireless communication architecture development, which favors A/D conversion module to be as close to antenna as possible, this converter can be directly put after mixer and allows the replacement of 4 analog signal processing module. Behavioral analysis of such circuits is performed in CppSim System Simulator and schematic level has also been further explored. First-order design is designed at first and an advanced second-order design is further explored.
