Abstract:Black female elementary Chicago public school teachers' discuss their commitment, drive, dedication, discouragement and fears about teaching in the school district. Through the retelling and sometimes reliving of their stories and experiences, these women discover that their lives and careers have been successful. They have achieved their goals of uplifting the children and in the process have uplifted themselves and their communities.
