Abstract:Students using the curriculum that included mental abacus training performed better on number concepts, computation, and some application and problem solving skills than those who were taught using a conventional math curriculum. No significant differences were found in students' measuring abilities and geometric concepts. Students' intelligence was moderately associated with math achievement. The correlation between age, gender, and previous math knowledge was not significant.
