Abstract: | Data for this thesis were collected from a school year-long ethnography of a group of 36 high school juniors who were students in a "school within a school." The research traced the students and their teachers across their English and history courses. Data collection focused upon audio and videotaped discussions, and also included interviews, stimulated response to recorded discussions, participant observation, student surveys and sketchings, and historical records of the institution. |
