Abstract:A dynamic model was developed to simulate mammary gland growth, nutrient mobilization among tissues of the sow, and the growth of nursing pigs in response to the length of lactation, nutrition, and litter size. The model can be used to establish dietary nutrient intakes required to minimize body tissue loss and support maximal mammary gland growth.
