Abstract:Using these strategies and the improved sampling protocols, a large number of novel peptides have been discovered in molluscan and other invertebrate model systems. The utility of MALDI-MS has grown from simple molecular-weight profiling to elegant experiments that enable the discovery and structural characterization of novel peptides. Such advancements, in combination with molecular biological, neurophysiological, and immunochemical approaches, should greatly expand our understanding of peptidergic communication in the central nervous system.
