Abstract:Catalytic reactivity of Ru doped Pt nanoparticles for methanol electrooxidation reactions were also investigated, for both a commercially available Pt/Ru alloy and Pt nanoparticles doped with a spontaneously deposited sub-monolayer of Ru. An increase in catalytic activity was measured for samples containing higher percentages of metallic Ru. 13C NMR of adsorbed CO on Ru modified Pt nanoparticles show a correlation between the Pt-CO bond strength, supporting the ligand enhancement mechanism. Aside from simple potential pretreatment of the catalyst surface, alterations of the Pt crystal lattice were attempted to preferentially form Pt(111) facets.
