Abstract: | Nicolas Flagello (1928--1994) wrote prolifically for solo voice with both piano and orchestral accompaniment. Some of his major solo works, including The Land, The Contemplazioni di Michelangelo, and Remembrance, and some of his more notable individual songs, including The Rainy Day, L'Infinito, and La Bella Aurora will be analyzed in terms of their pedagogical suitability for ongoing vocal development of intermediate and advanced voices. Interpretive aspects of the songs will be discussed in addition to demonstrating how existing research by Coffin, Vennard, Miller, and Doscher may be applied to the teaching of this repertoire. |
