Abstract:Having affirmed our premises regarding our conception of musical and serial systems, it is possible to demonstrate what happens compositionally under differing system interpretations. We accomplish this explication, first by examining theories developed in writings of Babbitt, Boulez, and Stockhausen (and those of their colleagues and students, where appropriate), and second, by showing the consequences of their system interpretations as represented musically.
