Abstract:With the second-part study, the method outlines a simplified mathematical approach to determine window dimensions for a given room based on evaluating discomfort glare sensation and interior light levels simultaneously. From a procedural perspective, the study assists the quality and quantity of daylighting distribution across the space based on accepted lighting standards, norms or guidelines. Mathematically, it was proven that objective DGI values can be used with Ev levels in order to prescribe feasible user visual comfort and better lighting conditions in building interiors. The results offer a formula that puts forward a simple relationship between the window width, window height and a specific (desired) depth of a given point in the space. A generic design scenario is used to illustrate the current method. The examined daylighting design criteria are of DGI values 16, 18, 20, and 22, and Ev levels 1000 lux and 2500 lux. In conclusion, the study proposes the glare criteria as additional to existing window sizing procedures based on critical illuminance levels (or minimum Daylight Factor on the working plane corresponding to the critical visual tasks) and critical exterior conditions (that occur with absence of sunlight and a CIE Overcast Sky standard).
