Title:Library Networks: The Beacon Lights
Author(s):Becker, Joseph
Subject(s):Library information networks
Library cooperation
Libraries --Automation
libraries and technology
Abstract:Louis N. Ridenour stated: "What is needed is a re-evaluation of the library, from the bottom to the top. [...] To mention only one thing, a [research] library should no longer necessarily be regarded as a place where books are stored." Becker's essay is a call for interpreting this statement as a call for building library networks and increasing cooperation between libraries. He describes particular ways in which he envisions this occurring.
