Abstract: | An astrocyte (green) is intricately webbed around a blood vessel in a rat cortex. One function of astrocytes in the brain is to supply neurons with nutrients. In this photo, we have captured the natural beauty of our biological self as the astrocyte elaborately encompasses a blood vessel to transport oxygen and nutrients into the brain. With this photo, we have a still frame view of a cell that is fueling all that makes us who we are- nourishing our behavior, our consciousness, and our dreams. |
