Abstract:This study seeks to check the comprehension level (through a check of the Author's Craft) of a English novel for high school students through using an already-coded text rather than coding the novel directly and learning coding skills in the process. What if all this coding learning leads to results that do no enhance comprehension as reflected in getting the Author's Craft? By creating an organizer, students can demonstrate the level of comprehension and teachers can assess if coding is worth learning and worth applying to a novel for K-12 ELA purposes compared to traditional organizers currently in use in the classroom.
