Title: Undergraduates Engaging in Inquiry
Author(s): Hurley, Walter L.

Subject(s): undergraduate research
Abstract: The desire for our students to develop inquiring minds is a common theme among teachers. Making that goal a reality often seems especially challenging. During the fall 2007 semester, as part of a joint Distinguished Teacher Scholar program and in collaboration with a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning discussion community, we have been examining a series of questions that relate to “Undergraduates engaging in inquiry.” These questions have included what value do students and ourselves as teachers get from our students engaging in inquiry as a means of learning, how can we model inquiry for our students, and how can we develop effective learning environments that stimulate and enhance student inquiry. The principles and organization of these discussions provide the content for this learning retreat poster.
