Abstract: | The goal of this doctoral thesis is to place into historical context and to make a modern edition of the Organ Concerto in D major by Gaspero Sborgi (1737-1819). The original organ part in manuscript and the original orchestra parts of the concerto in manuscript are extant and are part of the Ricasoli Collection - the music that was collected by the noble Ricasoli family in Florence between ca. 1750 and 1860 and is now located in the University of Louisville Music Library. The Sborgi Organ Concerto in D major has received only passing attention in the academic literature. The modem edition of the Concerto in D major is intended as a contribution to the continued investigation and publication of the music of Gaspero Sborgi. Preceding the modem edition are chapters on the composer, the style of the organ concerto, its reception, performance practice considerations in the concerto, and critical notes for the edition. |
