Title: | Energy and Carbon Capture Technology Research -- Large-Scale Demonstration |
Subject(s): | Carbon capture -- Illinois
Coal-fired power plants -- Environmental aspects |
Abstract: | There is still major generation capacity in the U.S. for burning coal. Illinois has the largest reserves of bituminous coal in the nation. The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center and the Illinois State Geological Survey, with their partners, are conducting a large-scale demonstration (25Mwe) at the Abbott Power Plant on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The project involves testing a new CO2 absorption process with multiple phases of liquid-liquid separation and investigating the performance of high-pressure CO2 desorption (Linde/BASF technology). |
