Abstract:A variety of multimedia e-learning strategies are used as supplements to text-based learning content on library websites. The University of Illinois Library focuses on LibGuides as the main delivery platform for asynchronous learning, with embedded content like screenshots, RSS feeds, interactive images, and online videos. This research investigates whether embedded videos, specifically screencasts, increase the effectiveness of LibGuides for users. According to Obradovich et al., 76% of ARL and CARL libraries currently use instructional videos on their websites. Since volume of videos alone is not indicative of effectiveness, this research highlights other case studies and considerations related to video creation in academic libraries, specifically for use with distance learners.
