<dc:description>This dissertation examines the application of Self-Determination Theory to out-of- school-time wellness programs through a scoping review and two empirical studies. The purpose of the scoping review is to gain a comprehensive understanding of how SDT has been applied to youth program design and staff training. The two empirical qualitative studies were conducted during a youth Summer Wellness Camp located in the Midwest. Study one examines the development, dissemination, and resultant impact of a Basic Psychological Needs Training with staff using an experimental design. Study two analyzes the youth’s perspectives to assess the relationship amongst basic psychological needs, affect, and motivation.</dc:description>
