Although the armed forces maintain that chaplains are to adhere to the tenets of their faith, they are subject to the military chain of command and expected to serve the religious needs of all servicemen and servicewomen irrespective of their beliefs. This research is interested in how the military chaplains communicate faith, spirituality, and religion to the National Guard military. I will argue that by its very nature, the National Guard complicates this communication and illuminates the growing diversity of thought and belief within the military.
