A questionnaire was distributed to 25 teachers in a diploma program. To follow up, several focus groups were conducted with a total of 11 teachers. The results from the questionnaire and the focus groups confirmed each other. The teachers acknowledged the importance of English in Hong Kong after 1997, complained about the lack of student motivation in learning English, and showed ambivalence on the issue of the medium of instruction.
