It has three research questions. First, what kind of citizen does the high school social studies and science standards used in West Virginia seek to create? Second, what kinds of political and economic ideologies are represented in the standards used? Finally, do the standards used reflect concepts found in global citizenship education? The study uses Critical Discourse Analysis following the framework of Mullet (2018), the methods of Gee (2011, 2014b), and employs concept coding.
