In this dissertation, Chen Yi’s Si Ji will be thoroughly discussed by a detailed analysis of the work as well as the background of Chen Yi’s musical world, and the poetry she is inspired by. It will show how the music produces a hybrid of East and West. I hope this dissertation will serve as a valuable source for other composers seeking their own musical colors, as well as researchers interested in the crossing of Eastern and Western music.
