<dc:description>Earthquake simulation tests of eight reinforced concrete two degree-of-freedom systems were made to study the combined torsional-translational response of reinforced concrete. A specially designed specimen was used in which the material interactions could be uncoupled. Test variables included: mass distribution, strength, and the presence of material interaction.</dc:description>
<dc:description>The measured response indicated that material interaction did not have a major effect on the peak displacement response of materially coupled systems (sections with biaxial bending). Nonlinear response calculations using Takeda's hysteresis system without material interaction resulted in very good estimates of the measured response histories for both materially coupled and materially uncoupled specimens.</dc:description>
